Durack Challenges Victoria Quay

Published by mmalone under

The membership of Durack Toastmasters today set the challenge to beat Victoria Quay Toastmasters and be the first club in the District to achieve distinguished status in the coming year.

GameOn

Each year, Toastmasters International awards clubs that have performed well in the year starting from the 1st of July. The club members need to achieve their educational awards, new members have to be attracted, and the administrative duties of the club need to be performed. For the past five years straight, Durack has achieved the highest possible award award, the President’s Distinguished Club. This has also been achieved by Victoria Quay and the two clubs are nearly always the first to achieve it for the district, which includes Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and Western Australia.

“We have a great deal of respect for the Victoria Quay club,” said Durack President Michael Malone. “But Durack is that little bit better. So in the coming year, we’re going to prove it by taking the flag again.”

The race is on.

Durack Competition Winners

Published by admin under

The Club contest was held on Thursday, August 8th. The event was very ably hosted by Steve Winton, in his first time as Contest Chairman.

The winner of the Humorous Contest was Dean Brickell, with a speech about his obsession with renovating. He narrowly pipped Pascale Amberville-Colby, who spoke about the fight pit he organised in his school days. Both speeches were very well received by the audience.

The table topics (impromptu speaking) contest had six contestants. The question was about apologising, how to do it and when. All the male contestants (and one female!) said that they didn’t apologise at all! Bernice told us that Medhat did apologise sometimes, if he really stuffed up, but only ever by email.

The winner of this contest was Pascale.

Durack’s First DTM

Published by admin under

Congratulations to Michael Malone, who was presented with his Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) award at the meeting this morning on August 9th. Michael is the first member of Durack Toastmasters to receive the DTM Award, the highest award available in Toastmasters. The award was presented by David Nicholas, who has himself completed the DTM four times!

Club Founder, Gil Alexander, actually completed the requirements for his DTM back in May, but his award is pending.
