Where and When?Durack Toastmasters meets every Thursday morning at 7am, typically lasting until around 8.15am. The venue is the conference room on the ground floor of 12 St. Georges Terrace, near the corner of Victoria Street and Adelaide Terrace. Many members find easy parking on Victoria Street between St. Georges Terrace and Terrace road or on Terrace Road. What sort of people attend?Toastmasters is ideal for anybody who gets nervous in front of an audience, wants a little self-confidence boost or is keen to improve their leadership skills. Members come from all walks of life and include engineers, managers, students from local universities, office workers, a swimming instructor and financial advisors – just to name a few. Our chapter has around twenty members at the moment, with a healthy balance of experienced and newer members. What should I expect?The meetings follow a fairly consistent schedule each week. For instance, a typical meeting might run: 07:00 Welcome (by the Toastmaster of the day) While we aim to stick to the agenda, Durack meetings do tend to be pretty social. Many of the members have been part of the club for years now, so there’s a good chance people will have a chat before or after meetings. Sounds Interesting … What now?Guests are always welcome to attend a few meetings, without charge, while they get a feel for what happens and how everything works. As a guest, you won’t be asked to participate in any of the meeting roles (unless you’d like to). Once you’ve attended a few meetings, you can decide whether or not the club suits you. We’re all pretty enthusiastic about our club, so we’ll be more than happy to respond to any queries you might have. So mark it in your calendar now – see you there on Thursday. |
